PROGRAMME INTRODUCTION

(Applications closed for 2024/25)

The five Pillars programme is a 12-month programme working with five 18 -25 year old's who have been historically underrepresented in the music industry from across London to provide them with access and support to understand their strengths and career direction. This will be done through exploring what we have defined as the ‘Five Pillars' (Artist Management, Label Services, Studio Management, Community & Events) and giving them access to our ROOT 73 studio across a 12-month period.

We will pair our apprentices up with relatable role models from our community who will facilitate 1-1 sessions to help our apprentices navigate a path that responds to their skills and strengths. Our apprentices will then be able to work on a project and have access to our mentors expertise and the Root 73 space to develop their ideas over the 12 month Period.

MASTERCLASS

After each pillar is complete, and before we commence the next pillar, we will hold a 2 hour masterclass where we will have experts from the industry join us to give us an insight into their journey, relevant to the specific pillars detailed in our program. These masterclasses will be scheduled well in advance to ensure attendance, and will be a great opportunity for you to hear other professionals speak about the areas you are learning about.

The masterclasses will also be forums for discussion, and moments of reflection for us all as a group. We will not often come together as a group throughout the duration of the program, but these masterclasses will bring us together and will be an occasion for us to catch up with each other on our respective journeys.

Furthermore, each of you will have to prepare a 5 minute presentation on the pillar you have just completed. It will be an opportunity for you to demonstrate what you have learnt.

"From The Ground Up that I was a part of at Root 73 gave me the opportunity to expand my knowledge and understanding of the music industry. It challenged me to explore areas in which I had never explored, and helped me with the resources I needed in order to start my own collective “I am HER”. The people working at Root Seventy-Three are so dedicated and passionate about young creatives finding their place in the industry. They have created an amazing, inclusive collective where people can express their creativity and art. They are absolutely insane musicians as well."

"My career in music began with Root, who gave me my first experience ever in the music industry, helping with their social media. I then started their apprenticeship scheme soon after, where I gained hands-on experience in music production, marketing, event management and more. This opportunity was transformative, giving me a clear vision of my career path and the skills to pursue it. Inspired by Root 73's mentorship, I founded GRADIENT, an events company dedicated to creating music experiences. The knowledge and experience I gained at Root 73 were crucial in launching and growing GRADIENT. Today, I'm finishing up my Internship at Universal Music Group, my journey has been shaped by the foundational experiences at Root 73, preparing me for the challenges and opportunities in the music industry."

Being welcomed into a community of genuine people, many of whom I've admired since the days of ENNY's 'Peng Black Girls' and ‘The Silhouettes Project Vol. 1', has been an honour. The program not only broadened my perspective as an artist manager but also boosted my confidence in navigating the music industry. The connections I've made and the mentorship I've received have been invaluable, making this past year the best of my life. I am incredibly optimistic about the future."
